Canada

81, 897 abortions were reported in Canada in 2014, as reported by the Canadian Institute for Health Information.  That is down 1.1% from 2013 when 82,869 abortions were reported.  These numbers are incomplete however since there is no legislative requirement for abortions done in abortion clinics or doctors' offices to be reported.

From CIHI:  "Hospitals are mandated by their provincial/territorial ministry of health to report all hospital activity (not limited to abortions); therefore, coverage of abortions performed in Canadian hospitals can be considered complete. However, there is no such legislative requirement for clinics to report their activity (reporting is voluntary). For 2014, clinic data for British Columbia is incomplete, and clinic data for New Brunswick is absent."

United States

Abortion numbers have dropped to an historic low in the United States.  699,000 unborn children were aborted in 2012, the latest year that the Centre for Disease Control has figures for.  That is a decline of about half since the highs of more than 1.5 million abortions in the late 1980s, and down from 730, 322 in 2011.  Read more
